About this tour

Holi is known as the festival of colours – and colourful it is! Gulal (a special kind of coloured powder) can be seen everywhere in the markets and on roadside stalls in the days leading up to Holi. Then come celebration day, watch as people throw the coloured powder on each other. If you would like to join in, we’ll provide you with some white kurta clothing and your own coloured powders. Celebrate Holi in Jaipur – it’s a fun time in India and a great way to enjoy the Golden Triangle. We have included the Holi celebration as part of our 7 Day Golden Triangle Tour – visit the 3 cities of Delhi, Jaipur and Agra that make an almost perfect triangle. After breakfast, you will be driven to Agra, home of the Taj Mahal (around 4 hours driving).

Visit the majestic Agra Fort. Step back to an era of great palaces and grand forts. The fort itself is magnificent and has wonderful views of the Taj Mahal in the distance.

Visiting the Taj Mahal at sunset is something special. Watch as the marble changes colour as the sun sets and wander the grounds of the Taj Mahal with your guide marvelling at its wonder. You will then be taken back to your hotel.

Overnight in Agra

Meals included: Breakfast and lunch

After breakfast, you will be driven to Jaipur in Rajasthan (around 5 hours drive).

Visit a local school (subject to the school being open) and village before having lunch at a local restaurant. Continue on to the deserted Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri. Walk through the city with your guide hearing the intriguing story behind the abandoning of the city and learn about its great architecture.

Continue on to Jaipur stopping at the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. Located in the Keoladeo National Park, a world heritage site and protected sanctuary, home to thousands of birds. Enjoy this wonder of India as you ride through the park on a rickshaw.

Overnight in Jaipur

Meals included: Breakfast and dinner

Overnight in Jaipur

Meals included: Breakfast and Special lunch

After breakfast visit the ancient palace of Amber Fort*, which is exquisite in many ways – size, scale, craftsmanship, history and sits on a hilltop with stunning views.

One of the most spectacular buildings contained in the fort is the Sheesh Mahal (Hall of Mirrors), with its walls completely covered with tiny mirrors.

It has been designed so that even if a single ray of light enters the hall, this light is reflected in all the mirrors and the entire hall lights up.

Later visit the key sights and wonders of the Pink City in the heart of Jaipur.

Visit the Observatory, the Maharaja's City Palace and Hawa Mahal (also known as Palace of the Winds and viewed from the outside only).

Built of red and pink sandstone it is said to resemble the honeycomb structure of a bee’s nest.

It was called the Palace of Winds as in the original design it had a clever cooling system that allowed a gentle breeze to pass through the Palace – very welcome in the hot Rajasthani summers. It is said to have been built as an observatory where the women of the Maharaja's City Palace could observe the outside world whilst remaining inside the palace.

In the afternoon, you will be driven back to Delhi (around 5 hours).

*You have the option to take an elephant ride to Amber Fort. The cost of this is USD 12 per person (2 people on an elephant) or USD 24 (one person atop an elephant). There are strict regulations in place to limit the total number of journeys each elephant can do in a day, and they are only allowed to carry 2 passengers at a time to prevent any over-working of elephants.

India weather

The best time to visit India is from October through to March. At this time, the weather across India is mostly warm and dry.

India is a large country with a huge range of varying climates. Most of the country is sub tropical with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Below is a very general overview to give you some idea of what to expect.

North India

  • Winter (October to March): The weather in the winter time in North India makes it a pleasant time to travel. It is not too hot nor is it too cold – although in some of the more alpine places it can get chilly – take some warm layers.
  • Summer (April to July): Summers can be hot in North India, particularly in May, June and July. The highs can reach 40°C and the lows drop to around 27°C.
  • Monsoon (July to September): This is when the North sees the most rain.

South India:

  • Winter (October to February): The temperatures are cooler at this time of year on the coastal regions (23°C to 32°C). The areas in the hills can be much cooler (15°C to 21°C).
  • Summer (March to May): Summers can be hot and humid in the South but sea breezes bring down the temperature and it’s a great time to visit the hill stations and tea plantation areas.
  • Monsoon (June to September): The rains start in June and bring the temperatures down. The areas in the hills become misty and lush. The beaches in the South can get choppy.
